Other quality-of-life enhancements may include Wi-Fi 6E, an upgraded Ulta-wideband (UWB) “U2” chip, a new maximum storage configuration of 2TB, 8GB of RAM, and faster wired and wireless charging. A price increase could also be on the way, though it might be limited to just the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Apple Watch Series 9
Apple is set to continue the iterative nature of hardware upgrades for its smartwatch in recent years with the Apple Watch Series 9. The headlining feature is expected to be an all-new S9 system-in-package processor with significant CPU performance and battery efficiency upgrades.
Apple is also reportedly working on improved sensor and internal components across the board, which are said to be more energy efficient. An all-new optical heart rate sensor could also be on its way, with lower power consumption, higher accuracy, and faster than before.
Other features include the upgraded UWB U2 chip, a new 3D printing manufacturing process for the stainless steel cases of Series 9, and new watch bands featuring a sustainable “FineWoven” material.
Apple Watch Ultra 2
The rugged Apple Watch Ultra made its debut last year, boasting outdoor fitness-centric features such as a bigger flat display, robust titanium housing, dual-frequency GPS, and double the battery life of any other Apple Watch.
Rumors have been quiet on what to expect from an upgraded Apple Watch Ultra, but the company has been rumored to be working on a new black finish to compliment the current silver color, in addition to new 3D-printed mechanical parts made from titanium.
Accessories
As part of its transition to USB-C, Apple will also begin moving many of its accessories to the new universal port. The AirPods Pro 2 charging case is strongly rumored to ditch Lightning in favor of USB-C as soon as Tuesday, with other AirPods models not likely to similarly transition till next year at the earliest.
Apple might also discontinue current materials such as silicone and leather as part of an environmentally-conscious sustainability push. iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands are rumored to adopt a new synthetic “FineWoven” material as stock for current accessories is low or nearly sold out at select Apple Stores.
