Apple has reportedly ordered 10 million OLED panels for the next-gen iPad Pro set to be unveiled in early 2024, according to new information reported by Korean news website Chosun Biz.

The order of 10 million units is set to be spread out across 2024, suggesting that Apple expects to sell around 10 million of its upcoming iPad Pro revamp. Each OLED panel set for Apple’s premium tablet range is said to be around three times as expensive as a typical iPhone OLED display, as the report adds that price negotiations for the panel order are at their final stages. Earlier reports suggested that Apple could significantly hike the price of the upcoming iPad Pro to make up for the increased cost of the new displays.

Mass production of the OLED panels is likely to commence around February 2024, which is earlier than originally thought. This suggests that Apple won’t unveil its new iPad Pro lineup till March of next year at the earliest. The report adds that the OLED panels are expected to be based on current Gen 6 technology, with LG Display set to be the main supplier as it is looking to produce 6 million panels. Samsung Display will be responsible for the remaining 4 million units.

Earlier research from Omdia also suggested that Apple was aiming to procure 10 million OLED panel units for the upcoming iPad Pro. The research firm also stated that the company is coming up with plans to introduce OLED displays on the iPad Air and iPad mini by 2026.

The upcoming iPad Pro will bring forward an overhaul of the tablet which largely remained unchanged since its current design was released in 2018. According to recent reports, the next-gen iPad Pro will offer the newly-announced M3 chip, 11-inch and 13-inch OLED displays, and a revamped Magic Keyboard that looks more laptop-like.
