The first vehicles to support Apple’s next-generation CarPlay experience are here. Porsche and Aston Martin today unveiled the interior of some of their vehicles taking advantage of the overhauled CarPlay interface, with those vehicles set to hit the road in 2024 (via Car and Driver).

Aston Martin

Aston Martin announced that its upcoming 2024 vehicles, including the DB12 coupe and DB12 convertible, will feature compatibility with Apple’s next-generation CarPlay setup for their latest infotainment system.

Aston Martin’s dashboard cluster features a central information screen flanked by a circular speedometer and tachometer. The tachometer incorporates the text “Handbuilt in Great Britain” wrapped around it, showcasing the brand’s identity.

Porsche

Porsche did not provide specific details regarding the timeline for the introduction of the latest CarPlay experience in its upcoming models. The dashboard gauges feature a ” background wallpaper that mimics [Porsche’s] distinct houndstooth” checkboard pattern, which is part of a new identity-specific design language that Apple is touting with the new CarPlay.

First announced at WWDC 20222, the next-generation CarPlay will offer tighter integration with vehicle functions such as radio and temperature controls. It will also support multiple displays across the dashboard, provide increased personalization options, and introduce additional features to improve the overall user experience. CarPlay will also offer integration with vital vehicle information like tire pressure, speedometer readings, and more.

The new CarPlay experience will still require an iPhone connection to the user’s vehicle, with Apple emphasizing that all vehicle-generation information is neither saved nor tracked on the iPhone.
