Apple today just released iOS 16.6.1 to the public, nearly a week or two before the company is set to release iOS 17 to the masses. The minor update provides stability and security fixes across the board to all iPhone devices that support iOS 16.
Users who wish to download iOS 16.6.1 can do so by navigating to Settings -> General -> Software Update on their iPhones. Apple’s release notes for this release are vague, but do indicate that it contains “important security fixes and is recommended for all users.”
Apple has also issued the following minor updates across the board:
- iPadOS 16.6.1
- watchOS 9.6.2
- macOS Ventura 13.5.2
The minor update could be one of the final iOS 16 updates as the company gears to publicly release iOS 17 following an extensive beta testing period throughout the summer. Apple will likely announce the official availability date of the next major iOS software update during its “Wonderlust” event, where it will finally unveil the wraps off its iPhone 15 lineup and more.
